What You'll Learn

1. Ocean safety — currents, where waves break, how to fall safely.
2. Paddling and lying correctly on the board.
3. The pop-up — practised on the sand first.
4. Riding white water toward the beach with your instructor choosing waves.

Common First-Timer Questions

Do I need to be fit? Being comfortable in the water helps, but you don't need to be an athlete. Your instructor paces the session.

Will I stand up? Many beginners do. Everyone progresses differently, and falling is part of it.

What should I wear? A swimsuit that stays put, plus sunscreen. See what to bring.

Private or group? Private lessons ($140) give full attention; group lessons ($75) are social and budget-friendly.

Equipment and What to Wear

Lesson Length, Ages and Swimming

• Lesson length: ask us when booking and we'll confirm.
• Ages: tell us each surfer's age; see kids surf lessons.
• Swimming: you should be comfortable in the ocean. If you're unsure, tell us before booking.
