Wave Height and Swell

Forecasts give offshore swell height, period and direction. Longer periods usually mean more powerful waves. See Understanding Swell.

Tide

Jacó's beach breaks change noticeably between low and high tide. See Understanding Surf Tides.

Wind

Lighter winds, often in the morning, usually mean cleaner waves. Stronger onshore winds make them choppy.

Water Temperature

The water is warm year-round; a wetsuit usually isn't needed. See what to wear.

Weather

Dry season (roughly December–April) is mostly sunny; the green season (roughly May–November) often has sunny mornings and afternoon rain. Details in the surfing calendar.

Sunrise and Sunset

Near the equator, sunrise and sunset times stay fairly consistent through the year — roughly early morning and early evening. Exact times are on the surf report.
