Answers are based on our current policies. Where a detail depends on the day or your group, we say so — just ask us.

Before Booking

How do I book? Use the booking form or WhatsApp 1-305-719-5707 with your date, group size and lesson type.

How far ahead should I book? As early as you can, especially in the dry season and holidays.

What are your hours? Lessons run between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Which lesson should I choose? See surfing by skill level.

Prices

How much are surf lessons in Jaco? Private $140 per person; group $75 per person. See prices.

Is a deposit required? Yes, 20% reserves your lesson.

How can I pay? Cash and credit cards.

What's the cancellation policy? Please ask us when booking and we'll confirm it.

Beginners

Is Jaco good for beginners? Yes, in suitable conditions — that's why we choose the location daily.

Do I need experience? No.

Will I stand up? Many beginners do in their first lesson; everyone progresses differently.

Children & Families

Can children take lessons? Families are welcome. See kids surf lessons.

What age can children start? It depends on the child's confidence and swimming ability — tell us their ages and we'll advise.

Can families surf together? Yes — see family surf lessons.

Private Lessons

What's included in a private lesson? One-on-one coaching, equipment, snacks and drinks. See private lessons.

Can two people share a private lesson? Yes; pricing is per person. See couples lessons.

Group Lessons

How do group lessons work? Everyone learns together with instructor feedback. See group lessons.

Can large groups book? Tell us your group size and we'll plan it with you.

Female Instructors

Are female instructors available? All our lessons are taught by female surf instructors.

Can men book? Yes, everyone is welcome.

Surfboards & Equipment

Are surfboards included? Yes, equipment for the session is provided.

What board will I use? Usually a long soft-top. See beginner surfboards.

Do I need a wetsuit? Usually not — the water is warm.

Transportation

Is transportation available? Yes.

Can you pick me up in Los Sueños or Herradura? Tell us where you're staying. See Los Sueños & Herradura.

How do I get to Jaco from the airport? See SJO to Jaco.

Weather

What happens if it rains? Rain alone doesn't stop surfing.

What about thunderstorms? If there's lightning, nobody goes in the water; we'll adjust or reschedule.

Tides

Do tides matter? Yes — see Jaco surf tides.

Should I choose my time from a tide chart? Ask us instead; we consider tide, swell and wind together.

Surf Conditions

How do you choose the location? Swell, tide, wind and your level.

Where can I check conditions? The live surf report.

Safety

Is surfing safe? No ocean activity is risk-free; we brief you on safety and stay with you. See surf safety.

Do I need to swim? You should be comfortable in the ocean. Tell us if you're unsure.

What if conditions are unsafe? We change location or time, or reschedule.

Jaco Beach

Do lessons take place at Jaco Beach? Often, when conditions suit. See Jaco Beach surfing.

Is Jaco Beach crowded? It can be busy in high season; we position you away from crowds.

Playa Hermosa

Do beginners surf Playa Hermosa? Generally not. See Playa Hermosa surfing.

What to Bring

What should I wear? A secure swimsuit or rash guard. See what to wear.

During Your Lesson

How long is a lesson? Ask us when booking and we'll confirm.

Will the instructor be in the water? Yes, she stays with you.

Can I take photos? Surfing photos are available — ask us.

After Your Lesson

Is food included? Snacks, water and soda, plus beer after surfing for adults.

Can I book another lesson? Yes — many students surf again the next day.
